Elizabeth Jarvis Campbell Papers
Elizabeth Jarvis Campbell loaned the library two of several binders of materials that she found in the attic of the W. W. Jarvis house in Moyock. Elizabeth is the daughter of Billy Jarvis and the great-granddaughter of Luna Barnard Jarvis. The Currituck Library now holds an archival copy of the contents of these two binders.
Included in the collection are deeds and land grants, mostly original, the earliest dating 1751; bills of sale; correspondence; promissory notes and receipts; and supply lists; and court records, among other things. The deeds and important documents like the bills of sale for slave transactions are being transcribed for ease of use. Campbell’s great-great uncle, John Etheridge Barnard, was sheriff of Currituck during the early 1900s; the second binder contains many court records related to county criminal activity during his tenure in the office.
